Environmental Initiatives
The following environmental initiatives have been introduced so far:
A Green Team has been established to take responsibility for environmental initiatives. The team is made up of a group of employee volunteers who meet regularly to review environmental issues and make recommendations. These initiatives are communicated internally via email.
Recycling initiatives
Receptacles for collecting clean waste paper, cardboard, plastics, cans and batteries for recycling are strategically placed throughout the offices and employees are encouraged to use them. Some of the paper is made into note pads and recycled within the offices.
Saving paper
Photocopying is double-sided where possible.
Waste reduction
A filtered water machine has been installed which has reduced the waste of plastic water bottles.
Re-usable dishwasher-safe cups are used which has reduced the waste of disposable plastic cups.
Re-use
Office furniture is re-used, along with suitable cardboard packaging and foam packaging materials.
Energy performance
An Energy Performance Certification Report was conducted in February 2009 and the Horizon building has an Energy Performance Rating of 48 placing it in a Category B which is an above average rating.
Environmental Products & Services
Employees are encouraged to select environmental products and services where appropriate and have access to CEAC’s business directory of suppliers.
Saving energy
The air conditioning is set at 20 degrees throughout the offices and automatically switches off every evening.
Carbon footprint
We only operate from one office in the UK. We employ a mobile workforce and have installed the necessary IT infrastructure to facilitate this. We have conferencing facilities dedicated to Zetes to further reduce the need to travel.
Employees are encouraged to restrict their car journeys and to car share where possible. Our Car Policy encourages employees to select a car with low CO2 emissions. Travel by public transport is encouraged, and a shuttle bus is available between local railway stations and the Horizon building for commuters.
We operate a Cycle To Work scheme to encourage employees to use bicycles instead of cars.
We are continually reviewing our suppliers with a view to reducing the number that we use to allow more automation of our systems.
Our HR & Payroll system has an Employee Self Service feature which means that many of our previous paper-based processes are now automated.
In 2011 we implemented a new SAP ERP system which has also resulted in many of our previous paper-based processes being automated.
Environmental Goals
Our Environment Policy will be reviewed annually by senior management to ensure that we maintain environmentally sound practices across the business, to include recycling, the reduction of energy consumption and meet the end of life/disposal criterion.
We will also ensure that we comply with all legal and regulatory requirements and we will work to continually reduce our environmental impact.
