Environmental Initiatives

The following environmental initiatives have been introduced so far:

A Green Team has been established to take responsibility for environmental initiatives.  The team is made up of a group of employee volunteers who meet regularly to review environmental issues and make recommendations.  These initiatives are communicated internally via email and in the quarterly company e-newsletter.

Recycling initiatives

Receptacles for collecting clean waste paper, cardboard, cans, toner cartridges and batteries for recycling are strategically placed throughout the offices and employees are encouraged to use them.

Saving paper

“Please think before you print!  Thank you” has been added to our company electronic signature.

Waste reduction

New filtered water machines have been installed which has reduced the waste of plastic water bottles.

New hand dryers have been installed which has reduced the waste of paper towels.

Re-usable dishwasher-safe cups have been introduced which has reduced the waste of disposable plastic cups.

Re-use

Office furniture is re-used, along with suitable cardboard packaging and foam packaging materials.

Environmental Audit

An energy audit was conducted in May 2008 by the Corporate Environmental Advisory Centre (CEAC).  Future environmental audits will be conducted annually.

Environmental Products & Services

Employees are encouraged to select environmental products and services where appropriate and have access to CEAC’s business directory of suppliers.

Saving energy

New energy efficient hand dryers have been installed which has provided a 70% saving on electricity.

Carbon footprint

Our Manchester office was closed in February 2008 and we now operate from only one office in the UK.  We employ a mobile workforce and have installed the necessary IT infrastructure to facilitate this.  We have conferencing facilities dedicated to Zetes to further reduce the need to travel.

Employees are encouraged to restrict their car journeys and to car share where possible; travel by public transport is encouraged, especially into London.  Moreover, our Car Policy encourages employees to select a car with low CO2 emissions.

We are continually reviewing our suppliers with a view to reducing the number that we use to allow more automation of our systems.

We have implemented a new HR & Payroll solution this year with an Employee Self Service feature.  This has had an immediate impact in that many of our previous paper-based processes are now automated.
