Bennet optimises collection processes with voice by Zetes

Voice collection at retail warehouse and distribution

Increased productivity and data accuracy from voice technology

Bennet, active in large-scale distribution in northern Italy since 1964, supplies 61 hypermarkets and employs more than 8,000 people. One of Bennet’s key business objectives was to increase  productivity and efficiency levels. By implementing voice technology they could realize sizeable business benefits in terms of accuracy and error reduction, realised in a very short amount of time.

Taking advantage of new technology to optimise existing processes

The collection environment within Bennet’s warehouse had already been computerised with a terminal and a portable laser reader with keypad. As time was an important factor in the picking phase, those responsible for logistics decided to move from scanning to voice technology, ultimately improving productivity and quality. Switching to voice was a logical step for Bennet, as they wanted to improve the order picking processes in their main distribution centre, which covers 44,000m2 and moves 45 million packages per year.

Seamless integration and smooth order picking processes

After implementing The 3i voice solution provided by Zetes, all operator pickers at Bennet’s main canned food distribution centre in Origgio (Lombardia), are now working hands- and eyes- free.  The communication with the central system (AS 400) occurs smoothly and seamlessly over the wireless network, and the solution can be trained to recognize the voice of each individual picker.

Gains from reduced errors and shorter operator training times

The speed of the data exchange can also be adapted across four levels of intensity, according to the work experience or rate of speech. With the new voice solution, training time for new operators has gone down from two weeks to two days.  At the same time, productivity increased by 4%, while encoding errors went down from 0,45% to 0,15%. The 3i voice solution by Zetes responded to Bennet’s needs in terms of functionality and flexibility. The 3iV Connector facilitated the integration with their central supply chain system.
